# Which companies visit your website?

The short answer

Your analytics counts visits but cannot tell you whether the visitor was a company you want. Visitor company identification matches a visit to the company behind it, so you can see which companies read your pricing page and which campaign brought them. It names companies, not people, and it cannot match every visit. A free report is the easiest way to see what your own data holds.

## Why analytics cannot answer this

Most visits never fill in a form. Analytics counts the visits, the pages and where they came from. It does not tell you whether the visitor was the company you have been trying to reach.

That matters most for B2B teams, where a handful of the right companies is worth more than a lot of visits from the wrong ones.

## Three places to look

### Visitor company identification

A small piece of code on your website matches a visit to the company behind it. It starts naming visits from the day it is switched on. Crank OS uses Snitcher for this, put in for you.

### What your ad platform shows

LinkedIn can report which companies have seen your ads. That tells you who saw an ad, not who then visited your website, so it is half of the picture.

### What your customer records show

If you use HubSpot, it shows which companies sales already know. A company that visits can then be marked as new to sales, already worked, or already in the pipeline.

## What to look for in each company

A name is only useful with the story behind it. For each company, four things matter.

* **The pages they read.** Pricing, a case study or the blog. What they read says how close they are.
* **The campaign that brought them.** So you can see which campaigns reach the companies you want.
* **Whether they come back.** A company that returns to your pricing page is worth a call.
* **Where they sit in HubSpot.** New to sales, already worked, or already in the pipeline.

## What it cannot do

### It names companies, not people

A visit is matched to the company behind it. It does not tell you who the person was.

### It cannot match every visit

Some visits cannot be matched, such as people working from home. You see a share of the companies visiting, not every one.

### It does not look back

It starts naming visits from the day it is switched on, so it cannot name last month's visitors.

### It does not remove the need for consent

We cannot promise it removes the need for a privacy notice or for consent on your site. Take advice on your own consent set-up.

## How to start

The quickest way to see what your own data holds is the [free companies report](/crank-os/free-companies-report). It names the companies seeing your LinkedIn ads and visiting your website, the campaigns that reached them, and which are worth going after first.

If you want it every day, [visitor company identification](/crank-os/tracking/visitor-company-identification) is part of Crank OS for B2B teams. The daily digest then tells your sales team when target companies come back to a page that matters, and what to do next.

## Questions

### Does it name the people?

### Will it name every visitor?

No. Some visits cannot be matched, so you see a share of the companies visiting.

### Does it replace our website analytics?

No. It adds company names to your visits. Your analytics stays as it is.

### How do I try it first?
